Day 6 - Nasbinals - 7 May

Rest Day
Weather: Sunny and cool, late afternoon storm
Accommodation: Hotel La Route d’Argent
Feelings: Neil - Relaxed, Henk - Relaxed,  Di - Relaxed

After yesterday’s challenge we woke feeling well rested. We met Anne at 7.15am for breakfast so we could farewell her. Breakfast was in the bar of our hotel and it was once again filled with French walkers. We have been walking with many of them since Le Puy but today they will be ahead of us whilst we have our rest day. Breakfast was served on a tray with a mixture of breads, jams, cheeses, cakes and meats.

Anne has been a great travelling companion and we will miss her. We took our last photos of each other outside our hotel before Anne walked out of town at eight o’clock.

Neil, Henk and I walked around the small town of Nasbinals (population 500) for about an hour getting our bearings and taking in the sites.

The main feature of Nasbinals is the 13th century Church of St Mary in the centre of town.

Our hotel room overlooks its unusual octagonal bell tower and it’s a fantastic view. When we woke this morning there was a light fog over the country side.

Nasbinals is popular place for skiers in winter and walkers in summer. Our hotel restaurant where we had a long lunch was filled mostly with French walkers. We enjoyed watching how the French enjoy their food. We think the food pyramid has been reversed in France with meat and cheese as the base. The couple at the next table had three courses of different meats before having the cheese platter.

We spent the afternoon resting and completing our washing. There is no laundromat in Nasbinals so we resorted to hand washing. Our hotel is a very old one and we reach our third floor room on narrow circling steps. The hotel is in a good high position centrally located.

It’s been a good rest day. Now we are ready to start again.
